More Gilmore Girls, More Violin, and More Pictures

I'll start with a Gilmore Girls update. We have thoroughly been enjoying watching this series again. It had been 7 years since I had seen those first episodes, and so they are almost like new to me. I am falling in love all over again with Stars Hollow and its residents. For those of you who have never seen this show.....rent it, buy it, borrow it.....just watch it!

Next topic....my violin lesson yesterday. Hmmmm....where do I begin???? As I stood there listening to the genius of Dr. Burroughs it reminded me of an episode of Gilmore Girls that I just watched a few nights ago. Ivy League bound Rory visits the campus of Harvard for the first time and is completely overwhelmed when she learns that the library contains 19 million volumes. She felt inadequate, small, and unprepared. That is exactly how I felt yesterday. You see, I have studied the violin my entire life. As a child I was pulled out of school early every day so that I could get a few extra hours of practice in. At age 10 I began playing with a college orchestra. On weekends I traveled several hours away so that I could study with the best teacher available. In high school, when my teacher moved out of state I flew to my lessons. I have performed with many talented orchestra's and symphony's. I have even gone on several concert tours to Europe. I have done so much...... but yesterday, I felt I knew nothing. I was overwhelmed at the feeling of how much there is to learn. Dr. Burroughs was showing me things and introducing me to methods of playing that I had never even conceived. The good news is there is no rush. I am racing against no clock. I have the rest of my life to continue to improve myself and in doing so become a better performer and teacher. And to answer Marilyn's question yesterday: I began taking violin lessons as a gift from my Grandmother on my 6th birthday.

Last but not least: Elisabeth's 5 month pictures. I was thrilled with how these turned out and I wanted to share more than just the one I posted on the sidebar.

Lisa I love these pictures! I'm so glad you shared more of them. My favorite is the sepia one with Elisabeth sitting on your lap and smiling. So cute! That's amazing about your violin lesson. It's so great that you can continue learning.

Wow! I know that would happen to me if I went back and started taking piano lessons again. I would feel overwhelmed and unprepared. And frustrated. But good for you for taking on the challenge of getting better.

Please post when your next performance will be, I really really would love to be there.

This tradition you have of taking your girls to get their picture taken every month, just blows my mind. I think it would be amazing to have a professional record of each month of your child's first year. Such a great idea! All of them turned out so well.

I love all the pictures! Elisabeth is a gorgeous little baby, as are all your girls!

My mouth kind of just hung open while reading all your accomplishments on the violin. I'm beyond impressed. I would also love to hear you play sometime! My son, Cameron - 7, actually asked if he could take violin lessons! Any advice?

I love that we share our blogs. I enjoy getting to you know you! Your experience with the violin is a very impressive, unique one. I wish I could hear you play!

Elisabeth's pictures are absolutely adorable! She always looks so happy. I noticed that in some of the pictures she has her eyes turned, like she is looking at something off to the side. Is that typical for a baby to do when they are blind?

I know exactly what you mean about receiving the cord blood kit made it all so real!! I didn't expect so much paperwork. My mom is a nurse, so I thought I would have her help me figure some of it out. And if she can't, then I'll be calling Duke again :o).

Wow, I had absolutely no idea how extensive your violin experience was! I'm severely impressed. These are beautiful pictures. Where did you have them done? Also, I wonder the same thing Kim asked, any advice for those of us whose children are interested in taking violin lessons?

There are several talented teachers here in town. The best way to get their contact information is to call the Mid-Columbia Symphony office. They get calls like that all the time and have a list of who is taking on new students. Usually I teach, but I do not have the time or mental energy right now to take on new students because of Elisabeth and her troubles.

You are so talented Lisa. I cannot imagine doing all that you have done. What a great blessing.

What gorgeous pictures. My favorite is also the sepia one. Gorgeous! So, who takes your pictures? I need to get ours done so bad and I am constantly "looking" for a photographer!

It is a comfort having my mom be a nurse...and she only lives 10 minutes away! Mike and I just moved back to Ohio in December. We were living in NW Indiana...2 1/2 hour drive from our families. Even though it's a bit stressful trying to sell our house back in Indiana with everything else going on, the comfort of having our families with us helps equal out some of that extra stress.
