Kindness

Have I Done Any Good?

Have I done any good in the world today?
Have I helped anyone in need?
Have I cheered up the sad and made someone feel glad?
If not, I have failed indeed.
Has anyone’s burden been lighter today
Because I was willing to share?
Have the sick and the weary been helped on their way?
When they needed my help was I there?

Then wake up and do something more
Than dream of your mansion above.
Doing good is a pleasure,
a joy beyond measure,
A blessing of duty and love.

There are chances for work all around just now,
Opportunities right in our way.
Do not let them pass by,
saying, “Sometime I’ll try,”
But go and do something today.
’Tis noble of man to work and to give;
Love’s labor has merit alone.
Only he who does something helps others to live.
To God each good work will be known.

-Will L. Thompson

This has always been one of my favorite hymns because of it's simple message to "do something good".

I was deeply touched this week by the kindness of someone I don't even know. A package arrived, and this was inside:

It's the perfect dress for the upcoming summer - cool, comfortable, and cheerful. And the bib...complete luxury! She made the backing extra, extra soft so that Elisabeth can enjoy its feel.

Thank you Susan! You put a HUGE smile on our faces :)

My favorite line:

Doing good is a pleasure, a joy beyond measure.

I've always loved this hymn too, thanks for posting the words and giving me the opportunity to be reminded of them and the message.

What a beautiful little set! And what a sweet person who sent it to you! I loved this post! I completely agree, I love that hymn, too, because the message is so simple, yet so IMPORTANT! Random acts of kindness are such a blessing in lives. Not only that, but simply being good and treating people in a way which would please Heavenly Father is such a great trait. There are always going to be people around us who hurt us, who gossip, who judge us, etc....but I have recently realized that the true test of character comes in the way we respond to it and in the way we choose to feel when it happens. Anyway, thanks for this post, it is such a good reminder!

My favorite part of this song is the chorus. I think I find myself needing to "wake up and do something more than dreaming of my mansions above". It's so easy to get lost in our own little worlds and lives.

Seeing something like this makes me want to do better. That dress and bib set is absolutely darling. It will be wonderful for one of Elisabeth's many gorgeous photo shoots!

That dress and bib have such a cheer factor Lisa. It is perfect for Elisabeth. Susan is a sweetie. That song was a perfect beginning. I sang it the whole way through. See you around.
