For those of you that read Donald's blog you know all about this car. It is our newly acquired 1971 Chevy Nova.
But this isn't any old Chevy Nova {trust me, I would not allow an old hunk of junk to take up residence in our garage}. This happens to be the exact car that my grandmother bought back in 1971. She owned it for something like 25 years and then my siblings and I drove it during high school. Yep, it was my ride.
So you see, this car holds a certain sentimental value with me. I smile every time I walk into the garage and see this piece of my family history. And I never would have imagined that one day I would stand in the front yard of my own home and watch my own husband drive down the street with my own little girls buckled into the backseat. I love that life keeps moving and changing...yet some things stay the same. There is comfort in that.
A few weeks ago I said to Donald, "Maybe the girls will drive it when they are in high school."
Donald looked at me with a smirk and said, "I don't think so." {he is already very protective of his new 'project'}
"Well, what if it's spirit week and they are having a '70s day?" I asked.
"Maybe" Donald replied.
So there you have it:
A new car,
an old car,
a classic car,
a family heirloom,
and Donald's new pastime....
all rolled together in one.
Isn't it wonderful??

It's so cool!
When I saw it, the phrase, "All my friends drive a low rider" came into my mind. Love that!
Great job Donald!
Yes, it is very cool indeed. Maybe I can finish cleaning the front end drum bearings today and get them repacked with grease.
Are there plans to pant it? Or are you keeping it white?
hi, lisa:)
i remember that model; my uncle had it in light blue!!! it's so awesome to hang on to a piece of your history. i live in the same house in which i did when i was a little girl. my husband bought it for me for our first anniversary... nearly 19 years ago:D
have a great day!!!
dani
Hooray for 4 days!!!
I love the wheels with the sentimental value. Have a great weekend.
How fun. My mom had a '64 GTO (I think that was the year but don't quote me) that she would love to have back. Family history is such a wonderful thing to hold on to.
4 days! Wonderful news. Praying it continues!
What a cool story! Way cooler than what I drove in high school. You know you're jealous that I got to drive a white ford aerostar minivan. LOL
"I love that life keeps moving and changing...yet some things stay the same. There is comfort in that." ~ I totally get that!!!
Yay for 4 days!! Such happiness that brings!
Everyone's talking about your cool car, but I just wanted to say HOOOOORAY for no spasms!!!! Four days is amazing and just think how much rest her brain has gotten in that amount of time. That is a true blessing.
The car IS cool, though. My dad had a cool car, but he never let me drive it. Sniff.
Not to mention how much enjoyment his dad is getting out of Donald having it. Donald called last night to ask Don questions about whatever it is he is currently working on. Don was so thrilled to be able to have a "real" car talk with the boy!
I'm dieing to know; are you going to stay with the majority or go against them and do a blog makeover?
Kristen...I don't plan a makeover right now. The truth is that I really do love the look as it is. I won't change it until I can come up with something that I like as much or more. But maybe someday...
I'm sure Donald will take up a new 'project' before the girls are in highschool.
Keep it up Elisabeth!!
My husband is over here drooling.
sweet ride! i think you should have labled this post "pimp my ride"
