Campaigning

Campaign: noun

1. a connected series of operations designed to bring about a particular result

My brother David used to live near us. It was wonderful. He would come over for dinner, join us on outings to the park, talk sports with Donald, attend my symphony concerts, and so on and so forth.

And then, 2 and a half years ago, he moved away. Why? Because David is a wanderer of sorts. He likes freedom. He likes the unexpected; he likes to be unexpected.

We were sad.

Now he's here visiting for a few days and we are campaigning to get him back in our neck of the woods. We're trying to remind him how it was in the old days....when he used to have an old brick apartment over on Underwood St.

Our series of operations so far:

  • greeted him with warm chocolate chip cookies upon his arrival
  • Alexandra and Lorelai played Sorry with him
  • Violin concert by Lex
  • Piano concert by Lor
  • Joined us for a family movie night
  • Several fine feasts
  • Wii action
  • An evening drive in the Nova
  • Donald showed him some local homes on the market (not-so-subtle campaigning)
  • Super bowl party
  • Dinner over at the in-laws (he always joined us there for Sunday dinner back when he lived here)
  • Walks with his nieces

And all of that in the first 30 hours....why wouldn't he want to move back?
