NC & VA Trip - Part IV

Yesterday started off with a bit of excitement - the fire alarm went off at the hotel. Luckily I was up and ready for the day (thank goodness), but Donald and the girls were all still sound asleep - what a rude awakening...literally.

I grabbed Elisabeth while Donald calmly got the older children and ushered them out the door and down the stairs - practicing our best evacuation skills. And then we sat and watched the fire truck arrive and the firemen go rushing in.

The sad thing was how few people actually evacuated. Seriously, aren't people concerned about their lives?? Yes, it turned out to be nothing more than some burning bacon - but they didn't know that.

Anyways, that will be something the girls will always remember, that's for sure!

Once everyone was dressed and fed we drove south to North Carolina. Donald, who is a huge Tar Heels basketball fan, insisted that we pay a visit to the UNC campus. (And all the while he was 'gently' trying to persuade the girls that that's where they should go to school....lol....except Elisabeth - she'll have nothing to do with UNC, she's a Duke girl through and through :)

Later in the day we met up with some friends at a local park for a BBQ. It's a funny story, really. Back in March they were over in Washington house hunting and came to look at our home. As we got to chatting I found out that they were from Raleigh...and then I told them that we had a trip to Raleigh coming up...and then she said they would still be in Raleigh through May...and then we all agreed to meet up while we were out here. We had a blast - especially all the children who just played and played and played some more:

Well, today is the big day, so keep Elisabeth in your thoughts! At long last she is going to get her stem cell infusion....so exciting!!!

Details tomorrow...
