An Ode to 2012

2012.

When I think back to two-thousand and twelve, I will think of trials and triumphs. I will remember facing some of the most difficult experiences of my life...but finding the strength to carry on and conquer.

What a blessed year it has been.

QE's Medical Monkey

It's no secret that Queen Elisabeth loves sock monkeys. It's also no secret that she has severe epilepsy. And those two facts combined made this the perfect Christmas gift for my sweet little QE:

A Medical Monkey

Because Elisabeth has seizures by the hour, we need to carry a Diastat pen with us at all times. This is used to stop seizures that go longer than five minutes.

Well, her medical monkey is custom made to carry the diastat pen in its leg:

Brilliant, no?

I also love the fact that his hands snap together so that he can hang on the wheelchair right alongside her.

Shopping for a child like Elisabeth can sometimes be a challenge because she has no wants and very few needs...so when I see something like this I am absolutely over the moon about it!

The Beam - Part 1

IMG_20121214_180132_zps98b7459d

Lorelai loves gymnastics.

And more specifically...Lorelai loves the balance beam.

So Alexandra - being the good big sister that she is - took some leftover fabric scraps, trimmed it down to official 'beam size', and taped it to the family room floor.

Voila!! An instant beam!

A fine beam, indeed.

I wonder though...if Santa might have something similar packed on his sleigh?

In pink, perhaps?

(wink, wink!)

Lisa's Home Show - Episode 13

Some musical Christmas cheer...
...from our home to yours.

***Please ignore the poor sound quality. I promise our piano doesn't really sound that horrific.

****As I type was typing that above, QE had a big seizure. Her seizures have increased exponentially in the past week. She even had a five minute tonic-clonic (grand mal) at school yesterday. Time for VNS therapy

Rosebud

Donald showed up last night with a sled for the children.
Oh, the excitement!

Now we just need some snow...

And yes, if you are wondering, Lorelai always wears a swimsuit or leotard at home.
That's what Olympians-in-training do.

Forest Fairies

I think that Alexandra and Lorelai's new Christmas dresses make them look like forest fairies.

Whimsical, no?

 Forest Fairies or Christmas trees.
 (Something of that nature...)

The entertainment:
Alexandra on guitar

Alexandra started off by playing a few classical guitar pieces. She then finished by taking requests from the crowd and performing Christmas songs together with her teacher.

Thanks to all who came to support Alexandra at her first public performance!
